about us

The mission statement of Nativity is a great explanation of who we are, what we believe, and what we are about. It is:

Called by the grace of God, we reach out to all people with the love of Jesus Christ.

“Called by the grace of God,”

Everything starts with God. God acts on our behalf, calls us into being, claims us as children, and leads us into service. Deeply rooted in the Lutheran tradition of grace, we assert that our lives and mission emanate not from our dedication or ability, but from the God of the universe. Resonating with God?s work of redeeming the universe in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we are moved to join the divine work.

“we reach out to all people”

All means all. As Jesus touched and was touched by humanity of every stripe, color and experience, we seek to follow Jesus and join this beautiful way. We believe that God’s creativity is expressed in the profound diversity of creation, and we seek to notice and honor God?s great work, beginning with one another.

“with the love of Jesus Christ.”

With Jesus as our example, we pattern our Christian life in the way of Jesus who is love. What we see Jesus doing in the scripture stories we also do. As Jesus fed, forgave, loved, healed, prayed for, advocated on behalf of and renewed, so do we. We are good news and love in Southeast Bend as Jesus was to Galilee.
